cataract surgery – pray the blind will receive sight!

June 8, 2011 by Simon and Annika Flanagan

silaso This post starts a weekly post to enable you to pray for the lost in Mengen land before our new gospel presentation starts in August. We will continue to post pictures of unsaved families here weekly to help you pray effectively. They need your prayers!

Meet Silaso, he is one of the oldest men in the village. Normally he wears a laplap (skirt like thing) only, but as he was flying out to town for the first time he got someone to buy him some clothes from a market, which is a days hike away from our village. Turns out they have some fake football kits there; at least he looked smart for coming out to town.

Well Silaso has had some very bad cataracts in both eyes for many years. In bright sunlight he was basically blind, so recently we have been able to help him as a team. He flew out of the tribe on Monday and as we are out in town waiting to go to Australia for our own medical, we have been able to help him with his. We went on Monday for an appointment and he had his first eye surgery on Tuesday; the eye surgery took 20Min’s but we were hanging around for 6 hrs until it was his turn. We are so happy to report that his surgery was a success and that his one eye is healing well. We will be bringing him out in the future to have his second eye operated on. He was so excited to be in town and to be driven around by me; he was very proud that people recognized that I could speak his language. He told them all how I know his language so well and that he has been my teacher (he has never taught me language and my language is not perfect at all). Silaso is a wonderful old character, please pray for his salvation.

silaso famSilaso and his family do need your prayers! They are truly blind to the gospel and so we ask that you will pray for him, his wife and his son Welik. Pray they will faithfully come to hear how our Savior has made provision for them.

Because of our Savior,

Simon, Annika, Nya and Noah
