“You don’t have idols in your house do you?” Our neighbor asked as we sat in their house which has 4 statues of Mary in the living room. We responded, “no.” What else do you say to that? “I can’t get into an accident because if I die I will go DOWN!” said the taxi driver honestly. “Jesus already paid for all your sins, all you have to do is trust Him,” I responded. “I know he paid for some but I just keep sinning again,” was his sullen response. These were just snippets of the few interesting conversations that we are slowly beginning to be able to have. Three weeks ago we were discouraged, exhausted, and thinking of a baby coming soon so we suddenly decided to take a vacation! We went to Natal, Brazil (Natal means Christmas in Portuguese). Our hotel was by the beach and so we swam, relaxed, played, and forgot about language study for a week. It was just what we needed. We just had a language evaluation. We would just attach the results here and let you all read it but it is all in Portuguese so I don’t think that will be helpful to you all. So let me try to sum it up. There are 4 levels: Basic, Progressive, Capable, and Proficient. each level is divided into low, middle, high. In order for us to move on to Manaus and the next language we need to be at level Capable high. Stephen is at Progressive low and Amber is at Progressive middle. Our teacher said that we are doing good and gave us a little direction on where to go from here. |

We were longing for the day when we all speak the same language in heaven…then someone said it was Portuguese…guess we better learn it! Stephen and Amber Clement |
