Who are Stephen and Amber Clement?
Blessed by our relationship with the Lord, we want to give others the opportunity to know Him. We met at the missionary training center in Roach, MO where we were also married on December 22, 2012. We now have 2 kids and one on the way (Isaque 3, Laila 1, baby 0).
Why are we going to Brazil?
There are still 121 people groups in Brazil that do not have the Bible in their language. Can you imagine wanting to know the truth and having no way of doing so? Here in America we have about 400 English translations of the Bible! But they don’t even have one! There are people over there crying out for the truth. Someone needs to go tell them!
What do we do in Brazil?
Our role is three-fold: We are support workers, evangelists, and disciple-makers.
As support workers, our job is to assist our missionaries that live in the communities up river. (They are translating and teaching the Bible.) This involves: buying supplies for them, sending it up river on a canoe, keeping the guest house clean and in working condition, upkeep on the yard, providing a few meals when they come down needing a break, handling the accounting, and any other random thing that we can do to further their ministry among the lost.
As evangelists in our community, we try to break through cultural barriers and years of lies by teaching through the Bible chronologically. We start in Genesis and go to the death and resurrection of Jesus, the whole way through emphasizing the hopelessness of man’s condition without God and the plan and sufficiency of God to rescue all people from their dire situation. Because most of them have been taught from a young age they can be saved by earning entrance into heaven, it takes many lessons before the truth can break through to their hearts so they can truly believe that it is only through Christ they can be saved!
As disciple-makers in our community, we try to find the true believers and help them grow in their walk with the Lord and bring them with us as we evangelize so they can grow in confidence to share with others about what Christ has done for them.
How long have we been in Brazil and how much longer will we remain?
We have been in Brazil 4 years now and as to how long we will remain…only the Lord knows the answer to that but we imagine more than 20 years…maybe till we die.
Stephen’s Testimony
I grew up in Scottsbluff, NE. My Dad is a pastor of a church there. I have 9 siblings. When I was in my elementary years I realized that I was a sinner and Jesus was crucified to pay for my sin. Because of my belief, the Lord saved me. After high school I went to Bible School and it was there that I got a passion for the Lord and His word. It was there that I accepted the Lords challenge to, “go and make disciples of all nations…”(Mat 28:19). So off we went to Brazil where we spent two years learning Portuguese, then moved to the Amazon where we now support our missionaries up river and stay involved in the local church.
Amber’s Testimony
I grew up in the Philippines. My parents were missionaries. I have 2 older brothers. I also at an early age realized the awesome free gift of salvation God was offering me and took Him up on His wonderful offer. I wanted to be a missionary until my brother was in a car accident that left him in a wheelchair. For about 2 whole years I was mad at God that he would allow such a thing. Finally I went to Bible School to see if they could help me. God’s Word changed my heart and renewed my desire for others to know this God that gives peace when things don’t make sense. After learning Portuguese, having 2 babies in Brazil, and changing from tribal workers to support workers, I have learned many things. After many struggles and questions I know the town is right where God wants us. There is a huge need and our skills fit them well.
