What does it mean to be an MK (missionary kid)?\u00a0 Being crammed in a van with your siblings and traveling to another church?\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 Always being asked the same question: Do you have snakes in the Philippines?\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 Always saying \u201cgood-bye\u201d to friends?\u00a0 Yes, at least it feels like it for an MK!\u00a0 However, Abigail, one of our MK\u2019s, tells us that she would be sad if she wasn\u2019t an MK.\u00a0 Rebekah is excited when she receives e-mails from her friends (though she doesn\u2019t receive emails as often as she would like).\u00a0 In following God\u2019s call, we have made choices which affect the lives of our children.\u00a0 At times they struggle with the results of those choices.\u00a0 However, it thrills our hearts when then participate with us as \u201clittle missionaries\u201d.\u00a0 For example: A few months ago an old lady died in our village.\u00a0 Our family went over in the afternoon to give them some rice and to show concern for their loss.\u00a0 As we sat with the Agutaynens, they were making flowers out of crepe paper (culture note: this is a way they decorate the casket and grave).\u00a0 Abigail and Rebekah asked if they could help.\u00a0 In this time of sadness our girls saw a way that they could help.<\/p>\n

Another example: Occasionally our partner will have Stephen teach on Sundays.\u00a0 When this happens, Stephen likes to prepare on Saturday as much as possible so he doesn\u2019t have to do the work Sunday morning before he teaches to the Agutaynens.\u00a0 One Saturday, Rebekah went with Stephen to our teaching area.\u00a0 There is a large chalk board there that Stephen likes to write verses and notes on.\u00a0 This particular Saturday, Stephen wanted to have John 3:16 written on the board.\u00a0 As Stephen was about to do this, Rebekah asked, \u201cMay I do that for you?\u201d\u00a0 These examples and many more are highlights and blessings to us parents in the ministry.\u00a0 Do you want to be an encouragement?\u00a0 Write a letter to an MK today!\u00a0 Please remember to pray for our kids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
