The Rule of the Receptionist

October 22, 2007 by Rachel Narwold

Most days I enjoy my job, at least mostly, but not this morning. Sometimes Mondays just really throw me. However this morning the “Rule of the Receptionist” was on my side. The rule states that when a person in a particular department brings in, or orders out food for said department it/they must inevitably walk right by my desk. This causes them to feel guilty for not offering me some, which most time causes them to give me some. So far I’ve gotten a chocolate donut from accounting, a piece of pizza and a bread-stick from production and this morning I got coffee. A grande Peppermint Cappuccino to be exact. Lisa, in production, was making a Starbucks run to take the Monday morning edge off of her department and offered to get me some. So as I sip my complimentary cappuccino I’m beginning to feel a little bit better about being out of bed, all thanks to the Rule of the Receptionist.
