I, Stephen, now have a new official job title. I am now a landscaper!
First of all, let me say that I still work for my dad, doing hardwood floors. And work is good, as usual. But as I may have mentioned before, that work is less than constant. In fact, sometimes it can be downright scarce. So Rachel and I had been praying that I would find a job that could keep me busy when I had time off from the Hardwood Cafe, but that I didn’t have to do when I was already working the other job.
Well, whether that last sentence confused you or not, I found the job I was looking for. Jesse, a guy at our Bible study owns a landscaping business, and has offered me work whenever I need it. So now, when my dad and I have time off, I just have to give Jesse a ring and I’ll pretty much have work no later than the following day.
So this week, since my dad and I had a job go away (long story), I called Jesse, and I’ve been making good money, building good muscle as a landscaper. It’s really nice to get out in the sun and do some heavy lifting and hard manual labor. I can say that because I’m really only doing it for a week or so at a time. It’s been an amazing blessing and answer to prayer.
I am also gaining even more respect for my brother-in-law Joel, who has been doing landscaping for a long time. He has done a lot of the hard labor, but also does a lot of design (drawing up blueprints, etc.), which is very fascinating to me at this point. I am actually kinda hoping that somehow, some way, I’ll be able to work for Joel for at least a month or so before heading out to a tribe. I think it’d be fun… but I’m weird like that.
