Rachel and I were blessed to be able to spend a night away while the kids stayed with Nana and Bucka this weekend. We had a wonderful time, all things considered, but we did have a few hiccups. Lemme ‘splain:
Our plan was to check in to our hotel (the beautiful “Cliff House” in downtown Manitou Springs) around 3. We would then head to the Sunbird restaurant for an early dinner (they have a discounted menu before 6)Â overlooking Colorado Springs. Then we would go downtown to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies on a big screen set up in the street, and enjoy the festivities.
Well, first the Sunbird plan fell through because they “weren’t seating” that night due to a wedding banquet. So we went downtown to a restaurant we thought would be similar in price… but it was twice as much. THEN we found a place called “La Creperie,” which turned out to be excellent!
From there we walked down to the event, where we spent 30 minutes “walking” a half block. Of course by “walk” I mean we stood with a crowd of people unable to go forward, sideways or back the way we came, just waiting for a stampede to kill us. We finally escape the crowd and, not having even seen the big screen, we headed back to the hotel, just in time to miss the whole first part of the opening ceremony.
From that time on, however, the time was great! We watched TV, had wine and strawberries, talked, and didn’t worry about the kids. It was amazing. The next morning we had a wonderful buffet breakfast with tons of yummy stuff, and we walked around Manitou and ate lunch at Panera Bread before heading back home to the kids.
Like I said, we had our hiccups, but all in all, it was a great time away from the kids and we are so grateful to Nana and Bucka (ok, mostly Nana, but Bucka helped too) for taking the kids so we could enjoy ourselves and SLEEP IN! It was heavenly. 🙂
