Steve’s dad, Glenn Irwin, was scheduled for a triple bypass heart operation in San Jose this morning at 7:30 AM. It started a little later because the surgeon got stuck in that notorious South Bay traffic, but by 12:45 PM, California time, Steve’s sister, Sandy, texted us to let us know that Dad was out of surgery and doing OK.
There is some question about the status of his kidneys. We had been warned that they weren’t in great shape and could be compromised by this trauma. We’re praying that they’ll bounce back and that he won’t need to go on dialysis.
This whole adventure began a week ago, on Monday afternoon. Dad had been struggling to breathe Sunday night and he didn’t improve throughout the day. Finally, he gave in and asked Mom to call for an ambulance to take him to O’Connor hospital.
Fluid was discovered in his lungs, so they took measures to deal with that while they checked out his heart. Three major blockages were discovered (100%, 90% and 70%) and he agreed to undergo bypass surgery, after consulting with his brother, Edward, who had already been down that road some years ago.
Steve’s brother David and his wife Stacey kept us well informed of the developing situation. Then his sister Sandy and her husband Lowell flew out from Atlanta to give moral support.
We are looking to the Lord for guidance regarding when would be the optimal time for Steve to go out to San Jose. Some kind friends have offered to make that possible.
Thank you so much for your supportive friendship and your prayers,
Steve & Eida Irwin
