When we were training missionary candidates in Colombia, they were attending a little church plant that our team had started in the town of Fusa. Soon, they also wanted to have a part in sharing the gospel with those who have never heard. This young blue-collar family with three small children and no college education stepped out in faith, walking away from a secure job to serve God full time.

To make a long story short, it has not been an easy road, but they have built great relationship with the Nukak, a hunter-gatherer people group, and they are now on the verge of being fluent enough in the language to share the life-giving message of the Gospel with them. They’re already developing materials to teach them how to read and write their own language.

By supporting us and the Spanish Language Resources team, YOU are supplying the resource material in Spanish to make it possible for a godly man who worked on a chicken farm, and his wife, to become cross-cultural church planters. Please keep them in your prayers.

Just a couple of prayer and praise notes from around the world:

Lightspeed Aviation Foundation continues to award annual grants to top vote-getters at their website. NTM Aviation has come in second for the last two years, which has meant $8000 each time for the flight program that serves our missionaries in the bush. So we’re asking once more (and probably will do so again next year!). The voting deadline is coming up in a couple of weeks (Oct 15).

Your vote for NTM Aviation will provide up to $10,000 toward a helicopter to help us reach people in the Philippines! It’s hard to convey to you how much work this represents

You may be thinking, “That’s very interesting, but what is Steve doing?”

Well, thanks for asking! I’ve been working on materials for the Literacy Consultant Team that serves our missionaries around the world. These documents include a job description for Field Literacy Consultants, a guide for Socio-Linguistic Research and ideas for developing reading materials for the tribal people who have been taught to read and write their own language. We also translated a very interesting article by Gregory Koukl called “Never read a verse” emphasizing the importance of context to understanding Scripture. It makes some very cogent arguments and will be a great resource for teaching Bible translators.

Thank you so much for your interest and your support in prayer and giving. We realize that it takes a more than superficial understanding of missions to appreciate the value of this ministry. It’s a long-term investment in the Spanish-speaking church, which consists of thousands of congregations, equipping them to plant churches in the unreached people groups of the world.

In Christ’s love and for His Kingdom,

Steve & Eida Irwin
New Tribes Mission
Spanish Language Resources
steve_irwin@ntm.org
Voice & Text: 408-515-1721
Mail: 1732 Night Hawk Dr., El Paso TX 79912

Faithful messengers We have great respect and admiration for our good friends, Luis and Elizabeth Trujillo.
