Furlough 2015 Summary

October 17, 2015 by Steve and Donell

Time Flies and So Will We…                           Oct. 2015

We are counting down to our last weeks of home assignment already!  We’re planning one more trip to see our kids and grandkids, and then Lord willing we’ll fly back to Port Moresby to relieve our partners who have been holding down the fort since April.  Yes, our return (to PNG) is imminent.

The last 6 months that we have been home have been exciting days for our mission (yes, the work has gone on without us!). When we left, 9 new missionary teams were at various stages of preparing to share the Word of God with people groups for the very first time.  And now, 2 of those teams have taught through the Gospel and have new believers ready for discipleship.

In Port Moresby there are churches hungry to be taught in, which Steve hopes to be a part of.  Because of this, he has been spending every spare moment during this summer studying God’s word, various websites, schools and books on systematic theologies and doctrine so he will be prepared when we return. Please pray for wisdom for Steve in planning this future discipleship in Port Moresby.

We’ve spent time in all of our supporting churches, shared at ladies meetings (Donell), spoken to teenagers (Steve), enjoyed fellowship and meals with pastors, old friends, new friends, and co-workers from PNG here in California. We’ve traveled to Idaho to see our kids and grandkids; they, in turn, have traveled to California for family reunions and site seeing with us. Whew!

Please pray for us now as we finalize our time here, we’ve purchased our tickets, and are packing to head back to PNG the first week of November. God has always provided for us as we commit these things to Him. We have to say, though, that after 26 years of coming and going, leaving here to return to PNG is not any easier. Familiar – yes. Easy – NO! Leaving parents and family is not easy. Leaving our kids is not easy. Leaving our grandkids… LORD have mercy! But we are still called to serve Him in PNG and will continue to GO as He directs us.

God Answered Your Prayers

God provided our need for transportation – thank you so much for praying.  A lovely Christian couple loaned us a vehicle for our whole time home. He has also provided some generous unexpected gifts that have helped with replacing computers and cell phones! God is SO good!

Continued Prayers Please

Pray for us for protection from the Evil one – you can imagine how he would like to stop the work of reaching the people of PNG. Pray for continued provision from the Lord as he meets all our needs for our return to PNG. Pray that the Lord would speak through Steve in churches and discipleship groups there as well. Pray for our re-adjustment to success in our ministry in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
