{"id":1484,"date":"2020-02-05T12:37:57","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T17:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/?p=1484"},"modified":"2020-02-05T12:37:59","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T17:37:59","slug":"hi-from-senegal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/2020\/02\/05\/hi-from-senegal\/","title":{"rendered":"Hi from Senegal!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-600x306.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1485\" width=\"450\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-600x306.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-300x153.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-768x391.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-1536x783.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-2048x1044.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-125x64.jpg 125w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-250x127.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-450x229.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/files\/2020\/02\/IMG_20200122_085824-2-1920x978.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s now been almost a month since I left for Senegal, and it\u2019s been one whirlwind of a month.\u00a0 Thank you so much for your prayers for me as I moved to a new country \u2013 please keep them coming as I continue to find my place here, learn life here, and try to balance the many hats I\u2019m wearing.\u00a0 In a nutshell, here is what these 3 \u00bd weeks here have looked like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 weeks of an Advanced Language (Discourse Analysis) Workshop, where I both learned a lot and helped others with questions.\u00a0 It was definitely brain-exhausting each day, but worthwhile.<\/li><li>2 days of another workshop.\u00a0 It was good, and not quite as brain-exhausting as the Advanced Language Workshop<\/li><li>Moving into an apartment!\u00a0 Erika, a colleague here,\u00a0has generously invited me to live with her in her new apartment.\u00a0 That has meant a lot of cleaning, killing cockroaches,\u00a0finding furniture to borrow, cleaning,\u00a0moving, and killing more cockroaches (the cockroach population does seem to be slowly dwindling, though.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll have to see!).\u00a0<\/li><li>Trying to figure out what projects are on my plate and the steps that need to be taken to make progress on them.\u00a0 This weekend I wrote 13 to-do lists, including ones for different hats I&#8217;m currently wearing: printing materials, helping others with linguistics, continuing training to become a discourse consultant, training someone else in People Group Assessment, etc.\u00a0 Ahh, it feels so nice to have it all written down.\u00a0 Now it\u2019s time to work on to-done-ing the to-dos!<\/li><li>Assembling and putting strings and levers on my little harp.\u00a0 Yes, it made it across West Africa, and it still works!\u00a0 It\u2019s been a lot of work getting it playable again (and I appreciate the people who have helped me!), but oh is it wonderful to have a harp here to play.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude0a<\/li><li>Deciding on and starting to attend a local church.\u00a0 I hope to be able to get more involved, but having a church is at least a start.<\/li><li>Spending time with co-workers, including two long strolls along the beach.\u00a0 Yeah, no snow here.\u00a0 Sunny and in the 80s.\u00a0\ud83d\ude0a<\/li><li>Trying out a few different local ice cream shops.\u00a0 I have to know which is best, right?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p> Well, there you have it.&nbsp;
