{"id":1923,"date":"2024-03-02T09:37:06","date_gmt":"2024-03-02T14:37:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/?p=1923"},"modified":"2024-03-02T09:37:08","modified_gmt":"2024-03-02T14:37:08","slug":"i-bait-yoor-bren-want-late-you-read-this-saytaynce-weill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/susie-l\/2024\/03\/02\/i-bait-yoor-bren-want-late-you-read-this-saytaynce-weill\/","title":{"rendered":"I bait yoor bren want late you read this saytaynce weill."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Can you read the messed-up English sentence above and understand it?\u00a0 Do you know what I\u2019m trying to say there?\u00a0 I think we can all agree that it has problems.\u00a0 Now imagine if your whole Bible was written like that \u2013 it would give very little motivation to try to decipher it, wouldn\u2019t it?<br><br>I\u2019m currently in another country of West Africa and could use your prayers.\u00a0 I\u2019m in a corner of the country I\u2019ve never been in before, working with a translator who just recently finished translating the entire New Testament into this language!\u00a0 (Praise the Lord!)\u00a0 And yet they are still not quite able to figure out their vowels, especially the difference between certain ones. For example, in certain\u00a0dialects of English, they are trying to distinguish between vowels in words like bet and bait and in words like doe and dog.\u00a0So that\u2019s what I tried to mess up in the sentence above, giving us a taste of how such a little thing can make a big difference.\u00a0 (If you want to know what the sentence is really trying to say, scroll down and the answer is at the end of this post.)<br><br>So now, what the translator and the others involved haven\u2019t been able to figure out in 20-30 years, I\u2019m here to try to help them figure out in a few weeks!\u00a0 Yes, did I mention that we could use your prayers?\u00a0 I\u2019m so grateful for the alphabet party method, and I\u2019m tentatively optimistic that it could help us figure out what in the world is going on, but we could use lots of wisdom.\u00a0 We want to figure out what\u2019s going on and how to properly spell words so that the translator can make all the changes necessary in the New Testament before it goes to print.\u00a0 Then she wants to make new learn-to-read books that should hopefully make it much easier and less painful to learn how to read in this language.<br><br>Thanks for your prayers for us and the mother-tongue speakers we\u2019ll be working with!\u00a0 I\u2019ll let you know how it goes and if we get it all figured out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sentence in the title: I bet your brain won&#8217;t let you read this sentence well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can you read the messed-up English sentence above and understand it?\u00a0 Do you know what I\u2019m trying to say there?\u00a0 I think we can all agree that it has problems.\u00a0 Now imagine if your whole Bible was written like that \u2013 it would give very little motivation to try to decipher it, wouldn\u2019t it?
