Or a director, like we have here. And sometimes it’s nice to actually see them in person, even if it takes a long, hot, and tiring 14 hours to get to their house.

Yes, I know what some of you are thinking – you’d love to be that far away from your boss! But I loved spending the time with Paul and Marina (one of our directors and his wife) this weekend at their house in another West African country.

I loved the rain storm and how I got cold that first night. I loved the nap times in the afternoon. I loved the delicious food they made for us. I loved seeing how the people they work with were so excited to buy booklets of Scripture portions in their own language (They don’t have the whole Bible yet, or even the whole New Testament. But a team is working on it.).

But I have to admit that I especially loved sitting down with them and learning from their years of wisdom. As I look out on a big unknown future, it’s nice to be able to talk to someone who has been there, done that, and is willing to share stories and advice from what they’ve learned. And their ride hasn’t been a walk in the park, but they’ve been faithful, and now it is exciting to see a growing and active church where there wasn’t one when they first arrived.

It was nice to be able to have a few more sparkles of light to light up the dark unknowns of the future, showing what kinds of things I may be able to anticipate in the years to come. Everyone’s journey is different, but thanks for sharing a bit of yours with me, Paul and Marina. And may the adventure begin!

Sometimes it’s nice to have a boss.
