That is completely true. Burkina Faso won the Semi-Finals of the African Cup Wednesday night and the whole country went wild. It was the first time in the history of the country, I believe, that they’ve made it all the way to the final game and it was probably crazier here than if the Packers had won the Superbowl.
After the game I joined my host brother and sister in taking to the street to the celebrate. It was definitely a sight to see, with people shouting and dancing and making noise however they could. Up and down the road motorcycles raced by, their riders often doing daring stunts. Music was playing, firecrackers were going off, and there was definitely a party atmosphere.
After a while, my host sister took me back home, since she said that it was getting dangerous. With that many crazy people around I can believe it. The next day I heard that after Burkina Faso won the Quarter-Finals 10 people died in the celebrations in different cities in Burkina Faso. So I’m glad that I was able to join in the festivities but that I was able to leave before it got too crazy. Thank you, God, for celebrations and for protection.
