Peanut field – it’s planted!

August 30, 2017 by Susie

My peanut field!

Thanks for your prayers for my peanut/bean field!  My host mom and others planted it for me after they got seeds.  Thanks to them!  When I was out there this last time Jen and I got to visit our fields, and here you’ll see me among my baby peanut plants.  All is going well so far and it doesn’t even need weeding yet.  Nice!

Hi Sunshine. As to harvest peanuts, it depends. If the ground is still soft from rain when it’s time to harvest, you just pull up the plant and the peanuts come up. If the ground has become hard by no rain, it requires digging them up and a whole lot more work (which I haven’t done yet).

As to roasting them, that depends on what you want. You can eat raw peanuts or boiled peanuts or roasted peanuts, or it can be made into peanut butter and made into a sauce to put over rice, etc. Lots of options!

Hi Susie – do you need to roast the peanuts after harvest?

Your peanut field….how do you harvest peanuts? Must you roast them before eating?
