The common response to “Hello, how are you?” is: “Not burned, thanks.” There are various dialects of Haitian Creole, which are a derivative of French. But please don’t take our word for it, we really don’t know how to speak Creole. We look forward to our two-week trip (April 10-26) to work with the personnel at the Baptist Haiti Mission, where we plan to eventually live for a couple years. For Martha, this is her first visit to Haiti.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, we are working with the Firm Foundation team preparing a children’s school curriculum. We will then have better tools for writing French Bible lessons for students in grades one through six – that’s six years’ worth of lessons, at increasing literacy levels and growing physical & spiritual aptitudes. This obviously takes team work, and being linked with God’s people who will uphold us and partner with us, to see this to completion.<\/p>\n
We were encouraged this last month as our local church started a Mission Encouragement Team (M.E.T. – Haiti) to increase the awareness and opportunities for participating in this ministry. PRAISE God with us:<\/p>\n
1- for Mission Encouragement Team (MET-Haiti) that has started at our church to be our prayer & advocacy link as we head out to Haiti.<\/p>\n
2- that the Second Set of 100 Pictures are ready to be drawn up by our illustrators & colorists for the Firm Foundation Bible teaching programs.<\/p>\n
3- for providing our financial needs for this 2-week trip to Haiti, as we do a workshop for potential future partners for this Bible curriculum for the schools in Haiti.<\/p>\n
PRAY with us:<\/p>\n
1- for long-term partners to pray & give & go – who want to participate in seeing the Bible taught through the grades in Haiti and in schools around the world.<\/p>\n
2- for the development of good translation helpers – who can communicate well to children, in their Haitian Creole language and in simple, everyday French.<\/p>\n
3- for good rapport with the personnel at the Baptist Haiti Mission – missionaries, pastors & teachers – who we will be working with over the next 3 years, or so.<\/p>\n
