A ministry in Haitian jewelry?<\/em><\/p>\n

Martha had been helping one of the BHM missionary ladies twice a week in the jewelry department of the MountainMaid Self-Help project \u2013 see the picture on our website. Ladies from the local churches were given training in making necklaces and bracelets from cereal box-type cardboard, and the Mission was finding sources to sell this jewelry for the needy church families. You can help a Haitian family – and have something to show for it – by searching for jewelry and buying it from www.mountainmaid.org<\/a> . Now Martha\u2019s ministry has expanded to 4 days a week working in the MountainMaid office. This self-help branch of Baptist Haiti Mission seeks to offer employment and sales options for believers as part of helping the Haitian church. You can visit their website, and who knows, maybe you\u2019ll take a liking to Haitian coffee, or wooden bowls, or painted tea cups crafted by Haitian church members. MountainMaid seeks to spread the gospel and help believers grow as we offer skills in crafts, the plant nursery, the bakery, the Tea Terrace restaurant and at the gift shop.<\/p>\n

I continue working at the Bible curriculum project. As I am finishing the Second Grade teacher\u2019s manual and student workbooks, I have also been visiting some of the 330 BHM elementary schools. This is the end of their school year, so it helps me to know how the finishing second graders handle reading and writing in French and Creole. This will affect how I plan the Third Grade curriculum, since each lesson needs student activities that are culture-sensitive and age-appropriate for the Haitian students.<\/p>\n

PRAY with us: <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>– for funds needed to print the Gr.2 teacher\u2019s manuals, plus the student workbooks for the over 24,000 BHM students in grades 1 & 2.<\/p>\n

– for me this summer as I seek Haitian educators and artists to help me contextualize the up-coming Third Grade Bible curriculum;<\/p>\n

– and for Martha starting a new ministry in the BHM self-help office.<\/p>\n

PRAISE GOD with us:<\/p>\n

– we were able to move into our new apartment June 8th, although we will be working on building furniture and painting for a while, yet.
\n– we are in the last stretch of getting the Second Grade Bible curriculum ready for the printer now;<\/p>\n

– and God is giving us health and strength as we press on; Martha and I both are recovering from what might have been giardia.<\/p>\n
