My wife and I are missionaries with NTM because NTM missionaries took the time to invest in our lives. Dave and Carolyn Meyers’ challenged us to help in this battle to bring the Gospel to places it has never been. They stood by us through 4 years of Bible college and proudly posed for pictures with us at our graduation from New Tribes Bible Institute.
This past summer we were able to work together representing NTM as the key note speakers for a week at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference in Michigan. It was great to be able to share the stage with our mentors, Dave and Carolyn.
We’re now begining to understand their excitment about our ministry…
We picked up a friend for lunch the other day. JJ is a student at New Tribes Bible Institute. He’s set to graduate soon, and it seems like only yesterday that we drove him up to Michigan to enroll. JJ wants to go on and finish the training, become an NTM missionary, and eventually help reach a tribe for Christ. This is especially exciting for us as we were able to see the Lord work in his life while he was in high school.
He’s full of questions about his future; questions like the ones we had ourselves a few years ago, and not unlike the questions we have today as we prepare to leave in 9 months. He’s worried about raising financial support, unsure of how that will all work. We encouraged him as much as we could, letting him know that we have the same concerns and unanswered questions about our own future. We talked about walking by faith, trusting God, and we explained some of the nuts and bolts of missionary life, passing on the things that we’ve learned from others.
He’s just one of the many young people whose lives Joan and I have been privileged to have a part in through years of youth ministry, young people all over the country in different stages of life. In fact we’ve been able to see 3 other young people attend NTBI in the past few years. We love them all and are proud of them.
We don’t know what the Lord would have for JJ’s life, but we’re grateful to have been able to play a part in it. We look forward to seeing how the next few years go.
Pray for others to take up the challenge of expanding the reach of the Gospel.
