The other day I overheard the kids playing in the trees out front again. They were animatedly describing the dire straits they found themselves in—stuck in a burning…something (I didn’t hear if it was a building or a plane or what it was)…and had to jump. It was now or never! If they didn’t jump they’d be burned up! They decided to jump. Upon hurriedly explaining all of this to his friend, the boy then jauntily yelled, “See you in heaven!” as he leapt from the tree!
I burst out laughing! What a line! Sounded like a quote from a movie! But then I found myself thanking God that even a child can have the assurance of heaven! How beautiful is that?
God didn’t create a plan so complicated that no one could ever know Him or get close to Him. On the contrary, He designed a plan so vast that it covers all my sin with forgiveness and grace and so simple that a child can understand it. So personal that He doesn’t just promise to be with me always but to be in me! So complete that not only has my past been dealt with but my future as well! Now that’s something to rejoice in! But tell me, my friend, will I see you in heaven?
