Retro Post (03-2012): “These are a few of my favorite things…”

March 17, 2017 by Tobi Magill

These are a few of my favorite things (lately):

Fresh pineapple, cucumbers and bananas!

Watching the storms roll in over the mountains!

Friday night pizzas with friends!

Crossing the river (by gumi or wading) and walking out to see friends!

Learning to make bilums!

Being able to say a full sentence in Tok Pisin!

Belonging to the family of God! “Yumi bilong Bikpela Papa. Yumi susas!” one woman told me the other day as she gave me a big hug. “You and me belong to God. We’re sisters!” Oh, how sweet to belong to the family of God! Halfway around the world and I’m still with family!

Being able to talk with friends and family at home while being literally half-way around the world!

Living in a community of friends again!

Still being able to be a country girl!

Listening to the rain on my tin porch roof!

Sipping hot tea with honey when I’m sick!

Sweet triumph over my current arch nemesis—cockroaches! (Actually, they have not been bad at all… I just REALLY don’t like them running around my house!)

Getting to see a rhino beetle and not just in pictures! (Sorry! It was too dark to take a photo of him and I didn’t have my camera anyway!)

The fact that I find grace in God’s presence when nothing about me deserves it!

The feeling of accomplishment when you can look out from one mountaintop to see where you’ve come from many ridges away! And the view from said vantage point! (The huffing and puffing to get there…not so much!)

Roses from the garden outside decorating my table!

All of you who have sent me here!

Bedtime!
