This morning I stood in front of my pantry taking a mental inventory of the contents. I noticed black beans, pecans, canned tomatoes, gluten free pasta, dairy free chocolate chips…… Over all, the pantry holds healthy food. Then I noticed the bright multi-colored cereal, Fruit Loops. I had to smile when saw the box. One day during Christmas break, when Luke was home from college, our family went to BJ’s wholesale food store. As I was shopping the pasta aisle, Luke and Josiah approached the cart with huge grins on their faces, and something was behind Luke’s back. When they got to the cart, Luke presented the box and Josiah asked, “Mom, can we have Fruit Loops. We both really want them.” They knew it would take a tag-team strategic effort for me to say, “Yes,” to the Fruit Loops.
Of course, I said, “Yes.” My children asked, and really, they hardly ever ask for treats.
As I think about this scene, I smile. The Fruit Loops also made me think about the many things that we need, that this world needs. God’s word says, “You have not because you ask not.” There are over 3 billion people who have no hope of hearing the Gospel of Jesus unless someone goes to them. Less than one penny of Christian resources goes toward reaching the unreached. These are sobering facts. Will you join me in asking God to send His children to the unreached people? Will you join me in asking God to put it on the hearts of His people to give? Will you ask God how He wants you to be involved in reaching the unreached?
