Special Delivery!

September 1, 2010 by Tom

My heart almost hit my throat when I saw the massive truck approaching. I flew down our stairs to see the thing that Tom and I (and many others) had been dying to see for months and months. Our CONTAINER! Praise the Lord- our stuff made it!

After being packed into a 40 foot shipping container along with dozens of other missionaries’ things, it made a six month journey from Missouri, USA to us here in West New Britain, Papua New Guinea. It seems nearly impossible that it could have actually made it all that way and now it would be in our hands again.

Since we arrived to our little apartment here in PNG we have been using things that belong to the mission. Even though we were very thankful to have the use of these items it did make it a bit more difficult to feel like we were in our own home. With everything being so new and different I was really looking forward to seeing a few things that seemed familiar! Now we have them!

Even though we were opening boxes filled with things that already belonged to us, it really did feel like Christmas in a way! Now the sheets on our bed smell like us, a few of our cups have our own memories attached to them, several pots actually belong to me and Jude has his own bed again! All these little familiar things add up to so much in a place that is so very different than what we are used to!

We give MUCH thanks to the Lord for bringing our stuff safely to us and are so grateful that none of it was damaged on the way! Thank you to everyone who prayed for this, we appreciate it. God is so good to us.

{FLASHBACK: Read the blog we wrote six months ago when we shipped our stuff!}

    I can totally identify. It was great to have my sister share her things with us for well over a year and a half, but breaking open box after box of “our stuff” was so nice. It was like Christmas too and still is since we haven’t opened them all yet. You really forget what you had after having things packed for almost 2 years.

    Enjoy the familiar and all the new, exciting things.
