Also, coming up will be a tweets collection called \u201cThings People Ask For\u201d where I tweeted some of the requests for thing we got in the village during the month before we came home for Iris&#8217; surgery.<\/p>\n<p>For now, take a look at our <strong>Tigak Island Fun Facts<\/strong>, with <span style=\"color: #800000\">3<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000\">\u00a0BONUS<\/span>\u00a0facts at the end never before tweeted. For fun I am including some pics of all different kinds of animals we cross paths with in our lives out there! Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Young guys on our island often walk around blaring reggae music. Boombox with cassettes? Nope. Radios with SD Cards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> We rarely swim on the island not cause we don&#8217;t want to but because surrounding it the water is super shallow&#8230;&amp; hot. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Our front yard is basically the village playground thanks to a tire swing. Most adults are afraid to swing on it, though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4599\" alt=\"Animals\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Population comprised of 4-5 clans based on matrilineal descent. Clans are identified with an animal, usually a bird.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Main staples include fish, sago and rice. What is sago? Its the insides of the sago palm tree processed and cooked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> There are 2 little stores on our island that sell crackers, tuna, rice, inst. coffee, creamer, fishing hooks &amp; string.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4600\" alt=\"Animals1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Everyone here depends on rain water, including us, for drinking &amp; cooking. Rains often, sometimes not often enough&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Non-human residents-tropical birds, crabs, pigs, monitor lizards, geckos, cascas&#8217;, lots of dogs, no mice and no cats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Monday mornings a community meeting takes place. Hot topics: gambling, dress styles, religion, fighting&#8230; in that order.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4601\" alt=\"Animals5\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals5.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Walk along the beaches &amp; find them lined with dugout canoes. Used for fishing &amp; traveling. Huge part of village life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> 1\/2 mi. long and 1\/4 mi. wide. Home to about 300 people living on about 1\/3 of the island. 2\/3 Mangrove swamp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Watch out for crab holes&#8230;and crabs, especially at night. Twist your ankle or prepare for battle with &#8220;armed&#8221; crabs?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4602\" alt=\"Animals4\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/tom-carlton\/files\/2013\/12\/Animals4.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Its covered in coconut trees. All you can eat\/drink coconut. \ud83d\ude42 Mild concern that a coconut may fall on your head. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>BONUS!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> The ground is mostly sand. Closer to the beach its soft and light colored, up at our house its hard and darker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Every family has 2 \u201chouses\u201d on their \u201cland\u201d: a structure on stilts with a few rooms for sleeping and a structure on the ground for cooking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tigak Island Fun Fact:<\/strong> Did we ever tell you the island is about 8 feet above sea level? No? Well it is.
