One weekend during the month of June I had the opportunity to travel with some of our mission ladies to a small town up in the Sierra mountains. They were hosting a conference for the women in the Spanish speaking church in the town but because of safety guidelines they needed a male to go with them. Because of my intimidating physique, I was the natural choice. (Actually, I think there was no one else around to ask)<\/p>\n

In any case, we made the six hour journey up the windy mountain roads and arrived to the small \u201cpueblo\u201d where we would be spending the weekend.<\/p>\n

Satellite TV is important in a pueblo that doesn’t even have cell phone service!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

We stayed in the house of some of our co-workers on the field who had previously lived in the community for many years. It was nice to get out and see the town, because when you live in the big city of Chihuahua you can settle into the idea that it is representative of Mexico. In reality, the small pueblos paint a very different picture of Mexico life than the city and are probably closer to what one might imagine in the United States when thinking of life in this country.<\/p>\n

I enjoyed the view of the visiting horse who enjoyed grazing on my friend’s grass.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was a good trip, even if I was only there for safety. I got a chance to serve by helping the ladies setup and tear down for the conference, got to explore the pueblo a bit and even got into some homes for some hangout and great food.<\/p>\n

I also helped the ladies prep for crafts and things for the ladies attending the conference. Beth was so proud of me. Ha.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was good for my Spanish, mostly, as I got to practice a lot, even though I was speaking English some with our co-workers at times. We had safe travels to and from, and overall it was encouraging to see and spend time with the small community of believers up there.<\/p>\n

The ladies who attended the conference were spiritually encouraged and enjoyed being treated to crafting activities to remember this encouraging time, as well as a small gift from the women who hosted the conference for them.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I got to attend the church service which is held in the one of our co-laborers’ home.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

As always it is important and encouraging to travel out and see how the Lord is at work in people lives and the way He continues to nurture and grow His church among the different people groups in Mexico and around the world. We are thankful for any part we can play in serving during this stage of our ministry.<\/p>\n
