What do those missionaries teach anyway?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Recently I was reminded that there are a lot of misconceptions about foreign missions.\u00a0 It reminded me of something I heard a speaker say to some high school students attending a diversity day event many years ago.\u00a0 Talking about the middle eastern religion she followed, she said, \u2018It is like every other major world religion, it\u2019s about doing good works to get to heaven.\u2019\u00a0 Hopefully an alarm went off in your head that said, \u2018Hey, that\u2019s not what every major world religion teaches!\u2019 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bible teaches GRACE<\/strong>.\u00a0 No one is good enough, and God extends His grace to each one of us.\u00a0 That\u2019s what NTM missionaries are teaching here.\u00a0 They are also teaching literacy so that eventually people can read the Bible for themselves in their own language.\u00a0 Please pray for the missionaries working among the Kovol people in PNG (pictured below).\u00a0 They just finished meetings to decide on an initial alphabet for their first literacy program.\u00a0 Pray for wisdom and energy as they begin developing a literacy course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July Travels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of July we traveled to Australia via Port Moresby for some break time, medical check ups, and for Travis to take his commercial air law exam<\/em>. We were planning that Travis would take just this one exam in Port Moresby. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were very surprised and blessed that he was also able to take the instrument air law exam<\/em> the next day in Cairns, Australia. (Previously we had thought he would have to make a separate trip to Mt. Hagen for the instrument exam.)  He passed both exams.  We are also thankful that our medical check ups were clear and we had a refreshing time in Cairns.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of the summer we thought we wouldn\u2019t be able to have another language evaluation until the end of August due to most of the language consultants being away for the summer.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately we were able to have an evaluation on July 31st.  Unfortunately for Travis, he came down with a mild form of Dengue fever on July 27th.  We didn\u2019t realize what it was at first, it was only after the evaluation when he broke out in a rash and his fever came back that he went to the clinic and had a positive blood test for Dengue.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite some definite brain fog on Travis\u2019s part, we each still moved up one level.\u00a0 Now Travis has two levels left to go and Becky has one more.\u00a0 Travis did make a pretty quick recovery and was back to about 98% energy after a week and a half.\u00a0 Thank you everyone who was praying for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer Requests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Please continue to pray for our language studies<\/strong>, hopefully this will be the last time I need to write this as a prayer request!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please pray for wisdom in raising our children<\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please pray that the good news of God\u2019s grace <\/em><\/strong>will be made clear <\/em>in every language<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
