Changes and a Celebration of a Life Well Lived

January 14, 2026 by Walter and Cheryl Spicer

Oreta Burnham

Thank you for praying for us. God provided another nurse to help Cheryl in the Health Office, and God provided a math teacher to take over Walt’s Math 7 class.

We had a busy but fabulous Christmas Break. We went to the beach with Abby, Wade, and Ellie. It was refreshing to see God’s beautiful creation. We organized several activities for the Butterfly Girls:  sports games, movie night, and a water sports fest. For the water sports fest, everyone was soaked by the end of the day, and we laughed the whole time.

Cheryl’s parents’ health declined over December. We are thankful for the family who cared for them while they were in the hospital. Cheryl’s dad had an infection and needed to stay in the hospital to receive IV antibiotics to combat the infection. Cheryl’s mother was retaining fluids in her abdomen and was in pain. Her liver could not keep up with her cleansing her body. Cheryl’s siblings, seeing the situation, told her to come home on January 4. We immediately bought tickets, and God worked it out so she had about 5 hours with her mother before she passed away.

We are also thankful for how God worked another miracle for her brother, Brian. He is a missionary in Southeast Asia, and his passport had been stuck in a government office for the past five months, but they were able to get it and return to the US for the funeral.

Walt was able to finish his last week of teaching Math 7 and will return to the US soon. The Celebration of Life for Oreta Burnham will be on Friday, January 16, at 11 am CST at Rose Hill Bible Church in Kansas. They will live-stream the service. You can find the link on the church’s Facebook page and YouTube. We are thankful she is no longer in pain and that she is in the arms of her Savior. Here is the link to Oreta Burnham’s obituary.

Lastly, we had mentioned the change in administration at Faith Academy at the end of this school year. God has been working in our hearts, so we took a step of faith, and Walt submitted an application for the position of Head of School. Please continue to pray for this process. We want to be open and willing vessels, and we want God to guide the Board in the selection of the Head of School and many other positions needing to be filled.

Luke 10:2, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Thank you for praying for us!
