The apostle Paul wrote in Phil.1:21 and 23, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain…having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.” My father desired to depart and be with his Savior. Dad had this hope that is now a reality. His body was wasting away, but now he has no problems or pain and he is with his Savior. Someday our hope will be reality–seeing Jesus face to face, worshipping Him with my father.

My father was 88 years old, when he entered the presence of His Savior on December 6. We were able to quickly wrap things up in the Philippines and return to the US on Dec 13. The middle school staff graciously finished the last three days without us, and Abby was able to take her finals early.

His funeral was on Saturday, December 16. All of my siblings were able to be there and many other relatives as well. The funeral service was encouraging to all, sharing many fond memories of my father’s faithful life and more importantly exalting our Savior. Many years ago, I had my children scan hundreds of my father’s old pictures. It was encouraging to look through them and reminisce of days gone by.

We will stay here in Rose Hill, KS, until Christmas and then return to the Philippines. My mother, who will turn 88 in January, will live with my brother in Botswana, Africa for a few months. Please continue to pray for my mother as she transitions to a new chapter in her life after being married for 67 years and pray for all of us as we will miss our father/grandfather/great-grandfather and friend.

Thank you for your prayers for us.

Walter and Cheryl Spicer

The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD” (Job 1:21) My (Walter’s) father and mother were living with my sister in Seattle, Washington, when my father took a sudden turn for the worse.
