{"id":199,"date":"2009-10-05T15:45:56","date_gmt":"2009-10-05T07:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/?p=199"},"modified":"2010-02-25T13:28:34","modified_gmt":"2010-02-25T05:28:34","slug":"when-it-rains-it-pours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/2009\/10\/05\/when-it-rains-it-pours\/","title":{"rendered":"When It Rains, It Pours"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_230\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-230\" style=\"width: 180px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-230\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/2009\/10\/05\/when-it-rains-it-pours\/dscf3175\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-230 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2009\/10\/DSCF3175-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Flood waters outside our house\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2009\/10\/DSCF3175-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2009\/10\/DSCF3175-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-230\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flood waters outside our house<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Saturday morning we woke up to heavy rain.\u00a0 It had been raining the night before but had increased in intensity and had not let up.\u00a0 We were told that our subdivision never floods, but our street began to flood with water pouring into it from a nearby creek.\u00a0 We were fortunate that the water never went past the level of our car port.\u00a0 We lost power halfway through the day and it was out until 5 am Sunday.\u00a0 We had water until Sunday morning.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Others were not as fortunate as we were.\u00a0 There were landslides that caused deaths and damage.\u00a0 The water rose high enough that some houses were flooded to the second floor of their house.\u00a0 The roads were impassable for a few days.\u00a0 They were using boats on the road to get around.\u00a0 Abby was spending the night with a friend and they fought the flood waters in their house (their new floor was ruined) and were blocked into their subdivision until Sunday afternoon when they were able to get out by another way.\u00a0 Major power poles were down.\u00a0 We kept two of Abby\u2019s friends until their parents were able to make it out to get them.\u00a0 We are thankful our high school girls did not have any volleyball games Saturday.\u00a0 The boys\u2019 volleyball team couldn\u2019t return to their homes after their game on Saturday; some just returned to their homes on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Please pray for the devastation here in Manila and for those who lost loved ones in the flood.\u00a0 Power lines and water lines are still out in many places.\u00a0 It will take weeks to get things back to normal here in Manila.\u00a0 Many lost everything they owned.\u00a0 We are fortunate to be close enough to Faith Academy with passable roads that we can take advantage of the water there.\u00a0 Walter and Paul went with some other friends to help clean up other missionaries\u2019 homes after the flood waters receded.\u00a0 School was cancelled Monday and Tuesday for us at Faith Academy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Saturday morning we woke up to heavy rain.
