{"id":272,"date":"2011-03-28T12:01:06","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T04:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/?p=272"},"modified":"2011-04-01T04:46:25","modified_gmt":"2011-03-31T20:46:25","slug":"midterm-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/2011\/03\/28\/midterm-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Midterm Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_300\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-300\" style=\"width: 180px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF51092.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-300  \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF51092-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Juliana blocking the ball\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF51092-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF51092.JPG 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-300\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juliana blocking the ball<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We are now two thirds through the first quarter at school.\u00a0 We had a great start even with the missing staff.\u00a0 Praise the Lord that three of the staff families are here.\u00a0 We are still waiting for about four more staff to finish raising their support and come help us.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Ashley and Juliana got involved right away with the first season sports.\u00a0<!--more-->\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_299\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-299\" style=\"width: 180px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF50681.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-299 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF50681-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Ashley playing defense\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF50681-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/walter-spicer\/files\/2011\/03\/DSCF50681.JPG 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-299\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ashley playing defense<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Juliana had a tough time deciding between soccer and volleyball (as soccer changed from 3rd season to 1st season).\u00a0 She chose volleyball and made the varsity team.\u00a0 She doesn&#8217;t play as much (though she did get a chance when one of the girls sprained her ankle) but she is enjoying it very much.\u00a0 Ashley made the varsity<\/p>\n<p>soccer team and is one of the back defenders.\u00a0 She is doing very well in her position.\u00a0 Both teams will be going to an international tournament.\u00a0 The soccer team is going to Thailand at the end of October,\u00a0and the volleyball team is going to Korea for the Far East tournament for the DODD schools (Department of Defense) at the beginning of November.\u00a0 They are both looking forward to it.\u00a0 Please pray for us to have the finances for these trips.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Walter is still going to be the girls&#8217; varsity basketball coach this year.\u00a0 With the added responsibility of planning outdoor education week, it was decided that he would have a co-coach so that he would be free to focus on outdoor ed. as it gets closer to the time.\u00a0 The week of outdoor ed is at the end of the basketball season and during the tournaments and final preparation for the Far East tournament at the end of February.\u00a0 Please pray for him as he prepares for basketball, works with a new coach and also starts planning for outdoor ed week for middle school.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Abby is enjoying being a fifth grader.\u00a0 This is the first time that her class has been split up into two separate classes while she has been here.\u00a0 She still enjoys her friends and has made new ones as well.\u00a0 She is also in the fifth grade band, learning to play the flute.\u00a0 A new opportunity for the fifth graders is a fifth grade choir so she is having fun in that as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Our family is again involved in the A4J ministry at school (similar to AWANA).\u00a0 Last Sunday we started registration for 400 children.\u00a0 They all received a t-shirt as their ticket in each week; it was quite chaotic. This Sunday begin the lessons.\u00a0 We are all working with different age groups.\u00a0 I work with the junior girls, Juliana with the primary girls (and Abby is hanging out with them and befriending a girl), Ashley works with the kinder age, and Walt works with the primary boys.\u00a0 (If Paul was here, I think we would have had all the groups covered.)<\/p>\n<p>Our boys are doing well in their colleges.\u00a0 Both boys are getting involved in the AWANA program at their churches.\u00a0 Paul is also playing on the soccer team and enjoying that and making new friends, especially on the team.\u00a0 A week ago, Paul had a mishap and broke his nose.\u00a0 After seeing the ENT doctor, he determined it is deviated a little and needed surgery.\u00a0 He had surgery on his nose Tuesday.\u00a0 Please pray for him.\u00a0 My parents went up to be with him before and after his surgery.\u00a0 The surgery went well and he is now recovering.\u00a0 Please pray for complete recovery and for the pain.\u00a0 This will also affect his playing time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Walter is leading another Bible study for staff called the Truth Project.\u00a0 Its focus is building a Biblical World View. \u00a0Plus Walter and Cheryl lead a Bible study with some of Ashley\u2019s friends called True U.\u00a0 Both Bible studies are DVD series by Focus on the Family.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Thank you again for partnering with us and praying for us.\u00a0 We feel privileged to be serving in the Philippines and are grateful for your support.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In Christ,<\/p>\n<p>Cheryl for the Spicers<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are now two thirds through the first quarter at school.
