Passing on the Flame

September 28, 2012 by Wayne and Patsy Gibson

We met Jim and Bev Feiker on our first Home Assignment in the Dayton, Ohio area. They helped to welcome us into the church family,  and began a ministry of discipleship in our lives that continues today.  The mentoring that Jim had done for Wayne now spills out onto the Piapoco believers.  Jim´s focus on discipleship is also our focus.

Last Sunday, during the first meeting of Piapoco Christians in a new location,  Wayne had the opportunity to share about Jim, his life, his ministry and of his Homegoing on Sept. 21st.  How thankful we are for the major part Jim and Bev have had in our lives, and their example as we reach out to tribal people, like they reached out to us.

The Piapocos may not realize the full impact right now, but those that gathered with us on Sunday are beginning to share in the fruits of being taught in their own language, from the Word, a part of being discipled.

Then in the afternoon, when it didn´t work out to have the men´s Bible study, Wayne visited a Piapoco family group who were hungry to be taught from God´s Word. Many of them became believers when our team taught there years ago. One man was quick to answer Wayne´s questions about profound Bible truths and the teaching in Genesis. Later we realized that he was just a young teen when we had taught there before.  The Lord has placed us in the midst of a people who have been prepared by Him to be taught, strengthened, edified, encouraged, and discipled.
