“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you” Psalm 9:10
The struggle with Nancy’s health has been a time of trial for us. The doctors had to make an intervention in my heart to solve a problem of arrhythmias, that has been caused by my autoimmune disease. The intervention was going to last 3 to 4 hours, and then I was going to spent a night in the hospital in general observation and then was able to return home … But God had other plans … In the last part of the intervention the surgeon made a mistake, which caused cardiac tamponade, which means that blood was collected inside the sac that surrounds the heart. This became an unexpected medical emergency for me. I was not aware of everything that happened in the following hours, I was taken to the ICU where I stayed three days. God undoubtedly saved my life.
After 6 days, I returned home, but four days later, my family again took me to a medical emergency, because I had a fever, difficulty breathing and intense back pain. The new diagnosis was: Pulmonary edema which means that there was accumulation of fluid in the lungs, and in addition, pneumonia. I spent eight days in the hospital receiving the proper treatment.
I returned home very weak and tired, but 5 days later my family again took me to medical emergencies, due to intense pain in the chest and back. I stayed at the hospital for 9 days, the doctor did some heart tests, which came out normal, thank God. But the strong pain in the chest and back continued, and although I received medicine for the pain to decrease it was increasing. A miracle from the Lord allowed a specialist doctor to diagnose shingles, this happened because my immune system was so weak and my defenses were low, due to the whole medical issue of the previous weeks. Shingles is very painful.
There are so many details of Gods loving care shown to me and my family during this time of trial, so many that they wouldn’t fit in this letter. God is good and forever his mercy. With my family we saw how he helped us in each of the difficult situations in which I found myself, giving us grace and strength, moment by moment, guarding my life miraculously.
I’m at home recovering me, still feeling tired and weak. Thank you so much for praying!
With Alberto we see these experiences as spiritual exercises, to grow in love for Him who sustains us day by day by His grace.
By His grace and mercy, Nancy Gonzalez
