To Brazilian School or Not?

August 3, 2010 by Angela Ketcham

That is the question.

Right now we are in the middle of trying to decide if we are going (and if it’s even possible) to send our three kids to a Brazilian school for part of the day.  Here are the pros & cons lists.

Pros-  we will not have to find childcare for our kids while we are in our class (learning Portuguese.); our kids will be exposed to Portuguese for four hours a day,  five days a week;  they will get to play, swim, & learn with other children;  we will get to meet more Brazilians; small class sizes; after the 1st month, tuition is free; it’s a private, christian school; the school day is only 4 hrs. a day

Cons-  being surround by Portuguese can be overwhelming;  we need to find a dependable ride to & from school for the kids; we will have to buy uniforms for the kids; the 1st month is not free & it’s expensive!; we still need to do their American school studies

Sooooo, we’ll see what works out.  Probably the biggest factor is finding a ride for the kids.  If we can’t find them a ride, then all the rest does not even matter.

On another note, tomorrow (Aug. 4th) I am heading down to a part of town that I have only visited a couple of times.  A friend of mine is going to take me shopping so that I can begin to learn my way around this particular area.  It is the area that I will most often frequent when we are living at PQQ.  So now is a great chance to go there…when I don’t really need anything. 😉  And I’m not in a hurry.

When we live at PQQ, we will most likely only come to town once a month or so.  That means our time in town is precious and we won’t want to waste it.  I figured if I learn the area now, I will do better when it’s time for me to ‘seriously’ shop there.  I’m going to take my camera so I can hopefully capture some of the feel of the area…it’s a lot different…open markets with fruit, veggies, fish (they stink soooooooooo bad!) & more.  Tomorrow will be a day filled with walking (carefully, so we don’t step in anything too gross), talking & shopping.   Hopefully I’ll have something fun to share with you…or at least a few good pic’s.   🙂
