Servant Evangelism Team is a group of young people learning to serve others. It is not necessarily true that missionary kids are as involved in ministry as their parents. Many times the Mk is so busy with school and school activities they are not exposed to outside ministries. SET is a group in which the Mk can use leadership skills and organizational skills to set up a ministry.
SET began when serveral young ladies wanted to have mime team. They needed an adult sponser and I was asked if I would like to do something like that.
Another gal took it a step further and organized outreaches from handing out tracts, distributing food to a poor area, and assisting an orphanage in chores or just playing with the children.
Today, our teens have many opportunities to minister via Puppet Teams and helping at a brick yard with other missionaries in the city. SET now is for those that do not have time for organized ministry but would like to get out and minister in small ways.{{20924}}
We make money for our ministry by selling nachos or {{21876}}some food at lunch time at school. Then we use the money and other donated money to feed a small orphanage, or prepare action packs to give to Indian children on the streets.
In the past years, the group has done mimes; helped taken care of special needs children while their parents attend a Bible study; handed out tracts in the parks and sharing about Jesus as our language skills would allow; praying for Voice of Marters; given out food to the poor and needy in a small community near by; and assisted an orphanage in doing chores. We even went on a trip to the mountains to help paint a hospital built for tribal people. All to help us grow in the Lord and be used of the Lord in others. {{21877}}
I am presently on furlough and am not in contact with what is going on at school this year. But I have challenged churches to help me make scarves to give to the several orphanges that SET worked with. Some of the students in the school are also helping to make them. We hope to distribute the scarves in November or early December.
It is important for all of us to have an outreach. Whether it is taking a meal to the sick or preaching at a rescue mission. We are all needed and the Lord uses these times to help us grow closer to Him.
