It is hard to believe that thirty years ago, I came to the Philippines to help in their NTM school in the mountains of the Philippines.
In those years, I experienced two government over takes; a major earthquake (air lifted by the US airforce); typhoons by the dozens which includes buidings and trees flying and major flooding; Mt Pinatubo volcano eruption and dealing with it’s ash; and years of Manial traffic jams which increased my patience. Each of these and more are stories in themselves.
My life verses have been "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowlege him and He will direct your steps." Proverbs 3:5-6 As I walked across small canyon on a bridge with broken boards and only a wire to hang onto, those verses sustained me. I sang "Trust and Obey" the duration of the crossing. Those years in the Philippines were full of constant events that made you fall in the arms of Jesus.
In those 20 years in the Philippines, I had to leave for furloughs, go through the training of NTM, and spent 3 months in Colombia subbing for a teacher at our MK school there. I spent 10 of those years teaching 3rd grade at Faith Academy in Manila.
After 20 years, I moved to the Mexico Field. My parents were in their late 80’s. It was time for me to be near where I could spend some time with them during these difficult times in their lives. My mother died Sept. 14, 2001 and my dad August 25, 2006. The Lord is good to have given me that time with them.
The Lord has given me a rich and eventful life serving Him. I can remember when I was younger thinking, "How could I afford to be missionary?" Now I know. It is not us but the Lord that keeps us on the field.
I thank the Lord that I could be part of the team that is taking the Gospel to people who have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is 30 years I would not trade for any other life. God is Good!
