Yes, you read that correctly. After 75 years under the NTM moniker, on April 28th our leadership at New Tribes Mission announced a new name for our organization, “Ethnos360”. It has been obvious for quite a while that a change was necessary due to the perception created by our former name. Here is a brief explanation from our leadership: “After prayerful consideration and conversation with international leaders we concluded that 1) all three words of our current name to varying degrees have become barriers to the work of NTM, 2) whatever new name is chosen must represent well who we are, 3) it must not move us away from what have always been our goals.”
So, what does the new name mean? Both parts of the name reflect the same Great Commission verses that are ultimately the inspiration for our ministry. Ethnos is the Greek word for “people group” or “nation” and is found in Matthew 28:19, “Go and make disciples of all nations…”. The number 360 represents the whole world, as expressed in Mark 16:15, “Go into all the world…” Although our name has changed, we still hold to the same vision and desire to bring individuals to Christ and establish a thriving church for every people!
