Well, we’ve crossed our two week benchmark here in PNG and things are still going really well. We’re settling in and still really enjoying our home and neighbors. We do have a couple prayer requests, however, as a few things have happened since we last wrote. First off, we ask prayer for Brent’s family as he just lost his grandma a few days ago. She was 93, relatively healthy, and loved by all of us. Pray for our family as they grieve her unexpected passing and for Brent as he tries to give and receive comfort from so far away.
Next, Brent is heading down to the capital today to take a test to transfer his pilots licenses to PNG. It’s a written exam but at times they have asked men to do a flight as well. This seems to be something that’s up to the officials’ discretion – please pray that Brent can just take the written test and be done with it. It can get complicated and expensive if they start asking for more testing.
We found out a couple days ago that our language class has been set back a week, we now begin on the 21st. We’re eager to start, pray that we catch on quick and build good relationships in the community around us while we learn. My house help starts tomorrow and she will be a huge help in my learning to speak Pidgin. I’m praying that we settle into a good working relationship and eventually a friendship over the course of our time together.
(This reminds me of a quick anecdote. Yesterday morning we were eating breakfast together and we were talking to the kids about how we are going to be traveling to the villages near us to meet friends and learn the language. We asked Beau if he had met any Papua New Guineans yet and he looked a little confused so to clarify we asked him if he noticed that the people who live here have much darker skin than we do. He said no, he didn’t notice that. We let it go and after a few minute he asks, “Will our skin turn really dark like theirs when we learn to speak parrot?” The language here is Pidgin, not parrot, but at least he remembered it was the name of a bird!)
Below we have pictures of our guest rooms, we are thrilled to begin hosting families and in fact we have some friends coming this Wednesday to Sunday. We praise the Lord for providing the space that we can open our home to coworkers here.

Friends: It’s wonderful to read about your life in PNG and how you’re settling it. It seems impossible that you’re there after we just watched your awesome NT video at our house. Love reading about the daily comings and goings of life and how he will work thru the plain ole ordinary. Meanwhile, thoughts toward you for all mentioned and life in general. Nice to read your son has an appetite – some kids are actually deprived of coming to the table hungry! So sweet & loved his comment about speaking “bird”. Hugs around for all. Deb

Glad your adjustment is going so well. I laughed when I read what Beau said! So cute! 🙂
