Our parts finally arrived to fix the car! Toyota sent them to California by mistake, so we had to wait for them to go from Rhode Island, to California and back. That took a long time! I disassembled the engine last night and found that the engine was full of oil sludge and that the oil system had been plugged. The noise I heard was probably the oil pump grinding itself apart. Not a very happy find.
I did some research online and found that this is a very common problem with this year/model of engine. Our car is covered under warranty so long as we can provide proof of the oil being changed regularly. We will have problems with this, because we are not the original owners. Please pray as Brian attempts to reconstruct 100,000 miles worth of oil change receipts!
