This year’s rainy season has brought some interesting flying challenges. On a recent flight I was trying to bring a family out of the tribe so that they could attend a funeral of a family member back home. It took three days of attempts before I could reach their location. On one of those days, I set down in a remote field to wait out the weather. As usual, about 15-20 people surrounded the helicopter within minutes after shutting down. Typically when this happens, I spend my time making sure no one does anything to accidentally damage the aircraft, answering questions about where I’m from and where I’m going. Then I listen to them tell me how to get there because they think I landed due to being lost. This time was a pleasant surprise. Some of the ladies who came thought I might need some refreshment, so they went to their houses down the hill and brought me a hot cup of coffee. It was a pleasant surprise.
Two days later, when I attempted the flight again and was finally able to get the missionaries out, I bought a couple boxes of doughnuts and printed out a Tagalog Christmas card/gospel tract I had made. Then on my last trip over, I landed in the same spot to leave the small farming community a Christmas treat and portion of God’s Word which I hope He will use in some of their lives.
