The Eighth Day

May 29, 2014 by Brion and Annette Kendzora

Day 8: I think we have already gained weight since we have arrived! The food here is amazing. Arepas, empanadas, fresh fruit juice with practically every meal, awesome rice and chicken dishes, wonderful soup and my personal weakness, fresh baked goods. Now that we feel a bit more confident to go out by ourselves, the bakery is going to be very hard to stay away from. My new heavenly treat is a guava paste filled thing of beauty. I don’t even know what they call it, but it is so divine! (I will be telling my dad all about it.)

The heavenly pastry

Another thing we love about Bogotá is the city itself. I am not a city girl by any means and I was very nervous about the idea of living in such a big city. Now that we are here, I love it. I really love the area we are in. As I said before we have lots of parks that we can walk to, plus the bakery is really close, along with tons of other stores. And we are fully surrounded by mountains. I am sitting on the terrace while writing this, looking out on the city and the mountains and it is truly breathtaking. We are so blessed to be in such a nice, safe, beautiful area. Living in the mountains also makes for some crazy weather and crazy clouds. It’s really great watching storms roll in and the clouds zoom by.

The view from the terrace

All of this to say that we are settling in quite nicely. We are very excited to find an apartment and set up our life there, but for now, we are trying to enjoy as much of Colombian life as we can. Pray that we find some good deals on furniture too! Oh, and Jonah is adjusting much better now so thanks for praying!

All this produce plus carrots and broccoli for under $10!
