Hukim Fis

August 23, 2012 by Bryan and Shara Moritz

Learning how to make a fishing pole with hook and line!

First you must learn how they make fishing poles from bamboo.

All the boys ready to go!

They made two kinds of poles.  One was made from a long bamboo stick, much like our kind of fishing pole.  The one Bryan is holding is made from a short bamboo stick with a lot of fishing wire. The fishing wire is wrapped around the bamboo stick.  They unwind it when they fish.

Going to a good fishing spot

You'r on your own boys! Catch some fish.

I don’t think they caught anything but it was fun anyway.  This was a father son outing because hukim fis is a man’s job.  (Later we found out that meri’s can fish too!)

The mighty fishermen. I think they had more fun playing in the river than fishing!
