Bryan’s Testimony

Bryan
Bryan

It was a privilege for me to be born and raised in Oregon.  I was nurtured in a Christian family environment along with my 4 siblings.  I learned about who God was and about His stories throughout the Bible.  When I was 8 years old, an older Christian lady had just died and I remember asking my mom lots of questions as to where the lady was now.  My mom explained that she was in heaven because she believed that Jesus had died for her sins.  I remember thinking that I wanted that too because I didn’t want to go to hell.  That was for bad people.  I prayed with my mom, believing that Jesus did die for my sins and that He rose from the grave and is alive in heaven.

At the age of 12, at Fir Point Bible Camp, I was challenged by the speaker as he emphasized the relationship that we as Christians have with Christ.  It was the first time that I realized the hour-by-hour, day-to-day relationship that Christ longs to have with me.  When I rededicated my life to the Lord that week,  I knew it would be a long journey of growing and learning to follow God and His plans for my life.

During my high school years, I was a “good Christian” in the eyes of others, but Christ’s presence in my life had little reality.  As I went away to college I felt I could now do whatever I wanted. What I really needed was to discover whether this Christian faith was my parents’ or really mine.  I got involved in a solid Bible church at their College/Career ministry.  This was the first time, I began to have a hunger for the things of God and a desire to live and serve God as He wants.  God surrounded me with genuine, godly friends who were huge examples and encouraged my daily walk with Him.  I am so thankful for a God who doesn’t give up on you and me and always desires to draw us to Himself.

I was also born and raised in Oregon (Grants Pass), just 3 hours away from Bryan.  It was a privilege to have Christian parents and an older sister who were the biggest influences in my life.  God and I met when I was 4 years old.  I understood that He was the big Daddy and I wanted to be His child.  I knew how often I did bad things, and I did them everyday, so there was no way I could be perfect.  Yet this “Daddy” loved me so much that He sent His Son to die in my place.  And I said, “That’s my Daddy!”

When I went to Jr. High my relationship with God/Daddy became more than just going to heaven to be welcomed by this amazing Dad.  I slowly realized through my Christian family and church body that I could have a relationship with Him and live a new and different life with His help, and I wanted that.

The Lord placed me in the midst of an outstanding youth ministry that taught me the truths of God and what it really looked like to function and serve in the body of Christ and grow intimately with my Father.  As I matured, I became very involved in different ministry opportunities and loved it. Through these ministries and the humble example of the staff God taught me that life did not revolve around me.  I had a heavenly Father that I desired to serve and tell others about.  I was hooked for life!
