I wrote this post back at the end of July but couldn’t find it again until now.
Today I had the priviledge of walking alongside a wonderful lady with a heart to see her own people reached with the Gospel. Lisa Seibert is a pastors wife living in her home country of the Philippines. She’s married to an American pastor that serves here seeking to see Filipinos come to know Christ as their personal Saviour.
Several years ago now our home church wanted to do something to help the many people who were flooded in Manila after typhoon Undoy. They were connected with Lisa and the ministry her church is involved in at a hospital in Manila.
Today I visited over 100 babies just in 1 ward in this hospital.
There were 3 sets of twins.
There were 16 babies that were in the Kangaroo ward. These are babies that are either preterm or low birth weight babies. The mom’s carry their baby tied to their chest to keep them warm as the hospital does not have enough incubators. The smallest baby was born at 6 months gestation and weighed just 1 kg at birth. Nearly 2 months later she was just 1.3kg but was with her mom.
I saw a mom who was not mentally capable of taking care of her baby and didn’t care for it.
I saw several moms that didn’t look much more than 14 years old.
I saw a mom that had her 9th baby, but it was in the ICU. She shared a bed with 3 other moms that had their babies with them.
I saw a baby that had fluid on the brain and one that had a hole in its heart.
I saw 4 moms and 4 babies sharing a bed that would normally be for just 2 moms.
I saw moms thankful for the small gift we gave their babies.
I saw a mom of healthy twin girls, they were an excellent size, who couldn’t go home because her bill wasn’t paid. It was a total of $50 US dollars.
I saw 150 moms with their babies in a hot crowded room with just a couple bathrooms to share.
I saw many babies that might not live till tomorrow.
I saw many mothers that would be back in this same place a year from now, adding another child to their family.
I saw many fathers, grandmothers, aunts and friends waiting for their number to be called to go see their spouse, daughter, niece, friend and baby.
I saw a very happy thankful father as his wife and baby were released to come home. He was thankful for the small gift we gave his newborn baby too.
As I spend my night not able to sleep because of seeing all these babies and seeing their need, I look at all the things my baby has: an overflowing bag of toys to play with, extra blankets to keep her warm in her air conditioned bedroom, clothes too many to count, a bed all to herself, diapers to keep her bottom clean and dry and a mom who loves her so much that she would do anything for her.
Tonight I pray for all those babies and their moms. I pray for the seed of salvation that was shared with them today. I pray that it will grow and that they will seek Lisa to tell them more about what Christ did for them.
Today I saw 2 ladies giving of their Saturday to share Christ with all these moms. They cared so much for each of these ladies and babies.
Please pray for the many babies that are born here each day with so little. Also pray for the many babies all around the world with just as little. Pray for the salvation of their mothers.
To those who make the blankets and sew the quilts; think of these babies as your own, or as your own grandchild. Pray for each baby that will get wrapped in that blanket like it was your own child or grandchild.
And thank you for giving of your time, money and prayers for these little ones.
