We made it!
“Smoking of tobacco or chewing of beetle nut while in the aircraft is strictly prohibited.” This and the predominant smell of body odor was the first experience of coming into PNG. After 4 different plane rides and 19 hours, we made it to our destination! After getting a full nights rest, we were ready to go. We unpacked all of our belongings and settled into our new home. We strolled around the place and of course we did a lot of swinging with Isaac. There aren’t a lot of people here, but we are getting excited to meet new friends here in the surrounding villages. The heaviness of all of the goodbyes still is heavy on our hearts, but we are excited to see what God is going to do within this next year!
This Aint no Walmart
Today we got to go to the market. We learned a few cultural expressions and bought some produce and meri blouses (mumus). Then we went to the supermarket which looked like an American grocery store and had a lot of regular items. Everybody loved Isaac and tried to make him laugh. Isaac was pretty shy though but he had a good time.
Coming Up!
Tomorrow the guys get to go to town and get our drivers licenses so that we can make trips into town and villages by ourselves. We basically will pay them some money, show them our US license and we get to drive! Im a little scared since they drive on the opposite side of the rode and there are always people walking all over the road so I hope not to run anyone over J
Later this week we will also get to go into some villages that are literally right outside the fences of our facility. These will be the people that will help us learn the language and culture and become our friends while we are here.
