Dear PRAYing friends and family,
We have had a busy but encouraging summer. Mom and Dad have finished planting the empty lot behind our house, turning the hay field into a buffalo grass lawn. Covid is still alive and well here in Sheridan and several of our close friends have gotten it. But so far, the Lord has kept us healthy and able to continue making progress on many of our projects.
Occasionally the clouds of heaven are pulled back and God gives us a tiny glimpse into the ways that HE is using us for His Glory and spreading His name in tribal churches on the other side of the world. We were given one of those little glimpses this week as we heard the testimony from Nyabau of a woman on her way home from church one Sunday. As she was leaving the church building, she passed a man holding his 4-year-old son in his arms. His little 4-year-old began singing at the top of his lungs one of the favorite Embaloh songs. The young woman paused to ask the dad about it. The dad said that was his child’s favorite song and that he had the whole song memorized, and he sings it every day at home. Why is this so amazing? 4 years ago, that songbook no longer existed in book form in that village. The young woman’s heart was filled with gratitude that the Lord had led our team to reprint the songbook, the lesson books and now their Bible will soon be printed as well. In the same village, a teenage girl of another religion also has been drawn to study God’s word because of hearing those songs sung in her heart language. She said, “God has been speaking to my heart through those songs.” Please pray for Yuni that she and her family will come to know the Lord.
Jaruma Alatala final read-through:
The Embaloh church final read-through team is over halfway through! They have sent us a list of revisions that they’ve found so far. Most of their requests are minor ones and a few are being sent back for further review. We and they want to closely guard the meaning that is being communicated through the translation. There are a few terms that are old language and difficult for the younger generation to understand since the Embaloh Bible was first printed in 1997. It has been so encouraging to see the church work together to get their Bible reprinted!
Taman materials to be printed:
The Taman scripture project has been officially registered and put into our translation software. The reasons for taking this extra step are to develop scripture phone apps for the church and to track the progress on translation, to have a record of revisions made among other things. We still need to do some checking on that step and make sure that it was inputted correctly. Their songbook is formatted and being printed this week.
Software translation:
Another project that I would appreciate your prayers for is the software translation for our Asia-Pacific field. Many of our teams are made up of national missionaries and they need access to the software for the development of teaching and literacy materials.
We continue to get to know the people in our neighborhood, asking the Lord to use us to build relationships and share the Good News.
Praise and Prayer requests:
- Pray that God would always have first place in our lives.
- Pray for Tracy and James who are both needing jobs.
- Praise for His faithful supply for our every need.
- Pray for Doug and Nancy who are in Missouri for meetings.
- Praise that we can continue to serve the Lord here in Sheridan.
We love keeping in touch with our Semandang “family” back “home”. They are doing well. We miss being with them and they miss us too. The grandkids are growing up so fast. Grace, Carla and Rere are all in junior high school and Varel and Rebecca are in grade school. Gadi and Dia are starting kindergarten. Bara just celebrated his 3rd birthday and Lia’s little guy is learning to walk. Toti’ is expecting her first baby. Thank you for praying for all of our family over there as well as here.
