Dear PRAYing family and friends,
Thank you so much for praying for my short term mission trip last month. I went with a couple from my church here in Sheridan. When we pulled into the location where we were to spend the week, 100 other people, both young people and adults, from churches in California, Utah and Minnesota had already gathered and were in the middle of getting set up. They had come to serve native Americans on the Wind River here in Wyoming in 6 different VBS programs and other helping related ministries for one week. I helped the kitchen staff prepare meals for them. It was a challenging time in many ways and the Lord showed His faithfulness to use me in spite of being in a totally new situation. It was neat to see what God is doing in the hearts of people right here in Wyoming and to see several youth groups and adults work together in unity and harmony serving Him.
Oke and I have been working at getting as much scripture ready to check as possible before my trip to Asia Pacific in August. She’s been drafting the book of Joshua and has gotten 9 more chapters rough drafted. I have been checking her exegesis and making revisions as needed, then sending them back to her for fine tuning. We both have been going through drafts and making comprehension checking questions.
Oke is feeling better, but still needs to see a doctor in town to get some things checked. In addition to that, please be praying for her water situation. She has run out of rain water a couple of times during this long dry season. She uses rain water for cooking and drinking since the river water is not clean. The weather experts say the dry season this year may run as long as into October resulting in cholera and typhoid epidemics. She had a well dug last month and has been able to get by so far but she asks for prayer about the whole water situation.
All three of my siblings have a plan to come to Sheridan in the next two months. Greg and Doug may overlap in their visit, but Tracy is coming a few days earlier. We are looking forward very much to seeing them. I will overlap a couple of days with Doug, but may not be able to see Greg this time. The picture below was taken in 2019, the last time we were all together.
The Lord has answered your prayers for the 6 new expat missionary families. All have arrived to Asia Pacific and are settling into language and culture study. Up in the north part of Asia Pacific, new students have arrived from all over Asia Pacific and are settling into the first phase of our missionary training program. Included in the new students are two Semandang young people that the Lord has burdened to enter the training program. One of them is the older son of Oke’s niece. We are thrilled with how the Lord is raising up laborers both Asians and foreigners to work together in His ripened harvest field.
This month we have been working through the process of changing our home loan paperwork from mom and dad’s name to mine. We are still learning many things about how to live in this foreign (but native) country that is the US. Many people have advised us to make this change sooner rather than later. So far the process has gone fairly smoothly though not without some bumps along the way. We appreciate the Lord’s care and provision for a place for us to call “home” temporarily while we wait for our permanent home which has been paid in full through the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross for us.
