Joy’s in the hospital

On Monday, Joy’s g-tube site began to bleed…. a lot.  I cleaned the area, and redressed it, but it soon became clear that this was beyond a mother’s expertise.  So a trip to the hospital was in order.

Although the bleeding stopped before we got to ER, it soon became clear that there was an underlying problem. Joy gets all her nutrition through her g-tube, but everything was leaking out.  Feeding has had to be suspended until the site heals. 

Various doctor consultations finally came together on Thursday, and there is a plan involving a different size g-tube. 

• Pray for the doctors to be aggressive in treating Joy. 
• Pray for Joy’s g-tube site to heal quickly.

I’ve been spending 7 to 8 hours per day with Joy.  I can’t tell if she cares if I am there or not, but I want to be there to advocate for her and to take care of her when others are too busy to do so.  

I’ve taken along my editing work to keep my mind occupied.  And I’m getting a lot done.  It’s not as convenient to use a laptop on Joy’s bed or to use a dresser as a desk, but it’s possible.  

• Pray that I will be able to make sure that Joy is getting the best care possible.
• Pray that I would be able to concentrate and progress in my editing work in the noisy hospital environment.
• Pray for strenth – I’ve been really tired during this time.

One neat thing — Joy’s doctor during this ordeal is a familiar face.  Dr. Patel is still her doctor until April 1st.
