Mystery of the missing e-mails

July 7, 2007 by

Trevor McIlwain, in Australia, and I work together on the revision of the Building on Firm Foundations materials.  We send e-mails with attached Word document files to each other on nearly a daily basis.

For about 6 months, I have not always gotten back the e-mails that Trevor sent. Sometimes they would come through; other times, they wouldn’t.

Because Trevor has such a quick turn-around time, I usually knew when there was an e-mail glitch. I would let him know, he would resend and the files usually came through the second time. But the problem was becoming quite frustrating. So we decided to track down the mystery of the missing e-mails.

We had assumed that this was a problem on his end, because it started happening when a new service provider took over his previous e-mail service. A check with them showed that his e-mails were going out fine.

So I checked here with our e-mail department. Turns out that mail from non-NTM addresses was being routed through an independent service provider, and NTM had no control over their SPAM filter. We think their SPAM filter was blocking some of Trevor’s messages.

Mystery solved! And more than that – a solution has been put in place.

On Friday afternoon, NTM made the switch so that e-mail from non-NTM addresses is no longer going through this other company.

  • Pray that Trevor’s e-mails will come through from now on.
  • Praise the Lord for e-mail. I cannot imagine doing this project by snail mail.

A recent e-mail glitch slowed down the revision process for Firm Foundations: Creation to Christ.

  • Praise the Lord that the mystery is solved and a solution put in place.
  • Pray that e-mails between Mr. McIlwain and Ruth consistently reach each other’s mailbox.
