Remember the kid’s game called, “Going on a Bear Hunt!” and the group leader would take us on an imaginary journey through the short grass, the tall grass, over the trees, through the swamp, etc. Recently, that game became real life when we were invited to friend’s house across the river for a “Mambu”. What’s a mambu you ask?
A mambu is a delicious crock-pot style meal slow cooked PNG style in pieces of bamboo on a fire. It is full of greens, onions, peas, ginger, garlic and chicken. Amazing!! Even though the food is something to talk about, the really exciting part is getting there. Here goes….
Can’t go through it, gotta go over it (crossing the river on a hanging footbridge)
Can’t go through it, gotta go over it… (a pig fence around the houses)Then the delicious meal with friends when our Islands friends meet our Highlands friends.
Now to head back a DIFFERENT way. Here goes…
This time can’t go over it, gotta go through it, one cold river…
Nope. Can’t go around it gotta go through it!
Can’t go through it, gotta go over it…
Caitie was having way too much fun!
The end of the trail. Come visit and we’ll take you for a mambu. It’ll be fun!!
