PREVIOUS MINISTRIES WITH NTM:
Prior to taking their position as Mid-Atlantic representatives for NTM, in September 1999, Dave and Joyce served sixteen years with NTM in Papua New Guinea as tribal church planters.
FIELD EXPERIENCE: After completing field orientation, the Hilt’s first assignment was working in the Pawaia tribe in the Highlands Region on mainland New Guinea. From there they moved to the island province of West New Britain to engage church planting efforts among the isolated Loko tribe. Dave also served as supply buyer and Joyce served in field bookkeeping prior to the time they moved interior. Deteriorating health eventually forced them to leave this area and return to the mainland to work at the NTM Field Headquarters.
Dave supervised the graphics division of the mission publications department, as well as offering assistance to missionaries in outlying tribal areas with his building skills and helps ministry. He also assisted in training national believers for ministry, equipping local pastors, and teaching Bible classes in a nearby government school. Additionally, Dave taught journalism and Bible classes at the mission boarding school for a time.
Joyce served the mission family with her bookkeeping skills and assisted the publications team as a typesetter and proofreader. She conducted classes in domestic care for national women, and developed ladies outreach ministries through Bible studies. Joyce also helped with teaching classes at the boarding school, giving private music instruction, and ministering to co-workers through her gift of hospitality.
Together, Dave and Joyce worked as class advisors, giving insight and leadership to students in the mission boarding school.
TRAINING: The Hilts formal education and equipping for ministry with New Tribes Mission began in 1981 and includes two years of training at NTM School of Biblical Studies in Jackson MI; one year of training at the NTM School of Intercultural Studies in Cornettsville, KY; and a six month study program at the NTM Language & Linguistics Institute in Camdenton, MO. Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Intercultural Ministries and Biblical Sudies. Joyce holds an Associates degree in Intercultural Ministries.
