March 1989 Mission Training Update

March 10, 1989 by David and Shari Ogg

“As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country” Pr.25:25

Dearest Friends,

Actually we aren’t as far away as it may seem. But there is so much good news that we want to tell you. In December we graduated from New Tribes Bible Institute in Waukesha, Wisconsin. There we got an excellent foundation in the Word of God. The 2 years we spent there will hold a real special place in our memories. (One reason is because we met there!) We have learned so much about walking with our Lord, as well as beginning so many lifetime friendships, and the list could go on and on. But I better end with the good news that we are expecting a child from the Lord in June.

“Lo, children are an heritage from the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward” Ps.127:3

With this solid foundation in God’s Word we are now taking another step of faith, a step that took us to Canada! Here we are taking the missions course (phase 2) of the New Tribes Missionary training. This course is preparation for the spiritual battle for souls in the “uttermost parts of the earth”. This truly has been an exercise of faith for us because we must completely rely on God for all our needs. The good news is…GOD, He really is taking care of us, just as he will on the field also.

We have thought a lot about our objectives and goals. Have you heard the phrase, ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail“? Well, our plan is to get the necessary training (spiritual and technical), to do our part to reach tribal people with the Gospel. (Which truly is good news for them!) Right now the training is in culture, New Testament church principles, and much more. All the while, having godly students and staff to which we are spiritually accountable.

This summer our training will take us right out to the woods for “jungle camp”. This is 6 weeks of living in the bush with hikes and canoe trips.

Your prayers will help us to reach our objectives so please pray for us.

  • Shari’s health (and baby’s) with the difficult schedule
  • David’s health (I have a cold)
  • We will be needing to gather many items for “jungle camp”
  • We are unable to drive until we get our van insured and we may need to register it in Canada

We hope this good news has been encouraging to you. We would be encouraged to know what God is doing in your life too.

All for Jesus,   David and Shari Ogg
